Tall and spectacular city views are important to downtown condo owners, but they're not the only reason—or even the main reason—why people are enjoying their new homes at places like Skyscape Condominiums in the Minneapolis Downtown East/Elliot Park neighborhood.
Little things like being able to get in a quick morning workout in the Skyscape in-house fitness center or board the LRT at the nearby Metrodome station for a fast and hassle-free trip to the airport make life all that much more enjoyable for Dr. Mark Mahowald-Well.
"It's an extraordinarily convenient place to live," says Dr. Mahowald-Well, a noted physician who works in the sleep clinic and neurology departments at Hennepin County Medical Center. "I wouldn't want to go back to a house and yard," says Dr. Mahowald-Well. "I never realized how much time is spent in maintaining a home…now on Sunday afternoon, I can sit and read a book if I want instead of doing maintenance."

Maintaining a regular workout schedule is easier too, now that he can just zip down to the Skyscape fitness center and get in his morning routines before starting the workday. "I just hop on the elevator and do my exercises," he says. "That is so convenient. It's just incredible that I can be done exercising 45 minutes after waking up."
Erick Johnson is thrilled with the way the building itself has exceeded his expectations. "There are advantages to living at a new building like Skyscape that you don't necessarily think about before you're living there," he says.
It's a building designed for owners, he says. "For example, it's a pressurized building," he explains. "So when you cook indoors, you don't have to wait forever for the condo to air out – you just open the doors and the fumes are whisked outside. For people who have lived in a condo before, especially in an older building, they know what a great thing this is."
He's also a big fan of the Skyscape business center, an in-house amenity for Skyscape residents that gives them 24-hour access to modern-day business essentials such as high speed internet access, a printer, fax machine and computer.
Johnson's job as a patent engineer for a downtown Minneapolis law firm requires him to participate in odd-hour conference calls with other offices throughout the country. Instead of having to trek into the office in the pre-dawn hours, he sets up shop in the Skyscape business center to make his calls. It saves him time – and makes him more productive.

He and his wife, Shannon, also enjoy walking to Orchestra Hall for the concerts – it's just minutes away by foot. Being close to the Metrodome also has its advantage for Erick who revels in being able to hoof it the few blocks to the stadium in the summer to take in a Minnesota Twins baseball game on a moment's notice with friends.
Not that the Johnsons spend all their free time downtown. For weekend breakfasts, for example, they often hop on the LRT and sample the cuisine at restaurants like Capp's, down the line in South Minneapolis. "It's super-convenient," says Erick.
Come November 26, the Johnsons and other Skyscape residents will have another super-convenient dining option available to them. That's when Otho, a hip new Asian Fusion restaurant and lounge, opens its doors on the ground floor of Skyscape.
When Steve and Mary Anne Moore feel the need to "get away from it all," they head not to a North Woods retreat but to their "urban cabin in the sky" at Skyscape. From their 13th floor one-bedroom perch at Skyscape, they can survey the city scene -- bright lights, big buildings, all the trappings of the urban landscape. It's a welcome variation for them from their first home, which happens to be located on a lake in the countrified atmosphere of Maple Lake, MN, some 50 miles distant from the Twin Cities.

Devoted theater-goers – they attended a play at the Guthrie Theater on the same weekend that they moved into Skyscape in the spring of 2007 – they can now relax and enjoy the city's Thespian offerings of an evening and leave the long drive back to Maple Lake for another day.
Their other beloved household member, Tracker – a vivacious and friendly 13-year-old dog of mostly Springer Spaniel lineage – feels right at home in the city too. The Moores take advantage of the Skyscape pet-friendly policy to bring Prince along with them on their jaunts to their urban cabin. And although they can't take Prince everywhere they go in the city – the canine crowd has yet to be courted by local theater operators – they do take him regularly to the Skyscape outdoor dog run.
If other family members decide to visit, there's plenty of room at Skyscape for them too. Skyscape can accommodate visiting family members and other guests with a luxuriously appointed guest suite and guest parking. The lounge and private Skyview Park on the 6th floor are also ideal for entertaining groups of friends in style. Skyscape routinely hosts social events like wine tasting, lawn bowling, and film screenings in these amenity spaces.
So there you have it. Three different takes on downtown life as seen through the eyes of some of the new converts to city life at Skyscape Condominiums. If there's a common thread, it's that there is so much more than meets the eye to living in a new condominium building like Skyscape in downtown Minneapolis.
Fortunately, there are still a number of beautifully finished one, two, and three bedroom condominium homes available at Skyscape at a variety of attractive price levels beginning at $180,000. Best of all, they are all move-in ready, since the building is 100 percent complete!
Located at the intersection of S.10th Street and Portland Avenue in Minneapolis, Skyscape Condominiums is a 252-unit residential community with a 15,000 square foot retail component. Opened for occupancy in May, 2007, Skyscape still has homes available in all price ranges, starting at $180,000 for 1 bedrooms and ranging up to $450,000 for two-bedroom units. A limited number of penthouse suites are also available, starting at $750,000.
